Jarred was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Davidson College with a degree in Political Science and French. He currently lives and works in Mountain View, CA as a legal assistant for Google. He plans to attend law school, and hopes to one day to work as in-house counsel for a technology company.

Jarred has been blogging since 2005: first on his personal blog (now retired) and now at Tropophilia. A lot of Jarred’s writing focuses on web 2.0, social networking, and the intersection of people’s physical and virtual worlds and lives. He’s interested in the impact of these on the personal level (relationships, habits, health, privacy); on the community level (families, businesses, government); and on the cultural level (traditions, trends). However, Jarred also enjoys writing about gadgets, science, and politics.

In the little free time he finds between Tropophilia and his job, Jarred enjoys listening to music and playing the drums and bass guitar.  He’s also into camping and hiking, tennis, reading, and gaming.

His favorites are blue, There Will Be Blood, strawberries, 24, French, Google, Dave Matthews Band, mountains, Mac, Davidson Wildcats, Blue Moon, and Barack Obama.

His to-visit list is Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Tahoe, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Austin, Chicago, Sydney, Athens, Beijing, and Istanbul.
